When He Went Back In Time…

He blinked…

There was a blackboard in front of him. The place looked familiar. It took few seconds for Sampark to realize that he was in his 7th grade classroom. For a minute, his mind went blank as he couldn’t understand what’s happening. He could hear the students playing outside the classroom. He could see the girls from his class having their lunch after the boys have left for the playground. He saw his lunch box in front of him which he had just finished . He looked outside the window and saw the grand canal with trees on both side. He felt their silence and also heard their song which he used to listen back in his 7th grade. Even though the situation was confusing, he felt the peace. A peace of silence. A peace of solitude. And….

He blinked again.

There was a blackboard in front of him. But it was in a different classroom. He looked around and realized that it was his 9th grade classroom. While he was processing all of this weird situations in his mind, one of his classmate, Subhranshu, came rushing through the door towards him. Controlling his speed breathing he said, “Bhai please bahar aa na mere saath! (Bro, please come outside with me )”. Puzzled, Sampark asked, “Kyun? (Why?)”. He replied, “Tu bas aa na (You just come)”. Sampark said, “Thik hai (okay)” & went with him. Before leaving the classroom, Subhranshu asked again, “Bhai, please bura mat manna. But kya mein tera haath marod ke class ke bahar le sakta hun tujhe (Bro, Please don’t mind but can I twist your wrist and take you out of the class)?”

Sampark was shocked as he recalled the exact situation which had happened with him back in his 9th grade. He said nothing and just nodded. As they came out of the class, he saw there were a bunch of his classmate looking at him and whispering between each others. Subhranshu dragged him towards them and said, “Dekh mene uska haath marod diya (See, I twisted his hands)”. Sampark was speechless as he couldn’t understand what was happening. Why was he living these moments again? He just walked back to the class and sat on his seat as he kept processing all these sudden changes.

And, again, he blinked.

A lots of students have gathered around him. Sampark had a notebook in his hands. He looked around and realized that he was in front of his IT classroom. He sensed that he was happy and other students were asking for help from him. He identified some of them who were really good friends of him. He also saw some faces who were there for the notes only. Sampark had begun to realize what was happening all this time. He didn’t want to miss the chance and closed his eyes to take it all in.

He opened his eyes.

It’s a white Bengal tiger. He looked to his both side and found his college friends. He felt like he was back at home again. Together, they explored the zoo. After roaming around for a long time, they went for boating. It was almost evening and they could clearly sea the setting sun at the horizon. Sampark felt blessed to be back in time. He looked at all of his friends, laughing & playing with the water. He knew that something had happened & he was living some of his memories again which were closed to his heart. His heart filled with tears of happiness & satisfaction. He looked up at the sky & cried, “Please, don’t take it all back” .

He closed his eyes as a drop of tear rolled down his cheek.

Everything went silent. He opened his eyes and saw the bright screen of his desktop. He was back from his memories to the real time. There were no songs playing in his earphones. He looked around and found his colleagues discussing ideas for the next day work. He looked at his monitor and saw that the old song which was playing earlier has finished. All of these sudden changes were not a mystery to him any more. He had found his portal for time travel. He smiled at himself and began to work.

Suddenly, he felt a hand on his hand, but there was no one. He became more conscious as the grip intensified. All of the noises of his office began to fade. He heard someone calling him. When he focused on the sound he heard, “Baba, Baba Utho. Aur kitna gaana sunoge? Utho, mujhe tution jaana hai. (Papa, Papa, wake up. How long will you listen to the music? Wake up and take me to the tuition).
